Who Should Attend and Why?

The purpose of the workshop is to enhance the capacity of local government officials to serve effectively, professionally and efficiently in municipal government. The workshop will help mayors and council members learn about their roles and responsibilities as elected officials and provide pertinent information about emerging issues and opportunities of importance to local governance. The program is held in conjunction with the Montana Municipal Institute for Clerks, Treasurers and Finance Officers and also the Jim Tillotson Service Program for City Attorneys, which allows for interaction between city attorneys and officials of both the executive and legislative branches of local government.

Municipal Elected Officials Program:

Municipal elected officials have access to several courses throughout the two-day program that are created specifically to address issues that Montana elected officials often face; often broken out into sessions for mayors and sessions for council members. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to attend several sessions combined with the municipal clerks' and treasurers' tracks to learn about topics that have an impact on everyone's duties.

Additionally, an elected officials reception will be held at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 at 5:30 pm. This is a great chance to interact with fellow municipal elected officials and start building a network of fellow mayors and council members across the state!
